The Northern League of Legends Championship, hereinafter dubbed the "NLC", is a League of Legends league organized by Riot Games and Freaks 4U Gaming GmbH and serves as entertainment as well as the promotion of the League of Legends scene in the following countries: United Kingdom, Ireland, Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark. The association of the aforementioned countries is hereinafter dubbed the "Northern Region".
Players and teams
Any natural person who is legally allowed to play "League of Legends" is eligible to participate in the league and is hereinafter dubbed a "Player" if they play with the League of Legends Tournament Realm Account provided by the Administration. An association of at least five (5) Players is required to participate in the league and is hereinafter dubbed a "team".
A team is eligible to play if at least two (2) of five (5) Players playing in a game are Locally Trained Representatives (LTR). However, in total at least three (3) Players on a team must be LTR. A Player is considered an LTR if at least one of the following conditions is met:
- The Player has had primary residence in the Northern Region within 36 out of the last 60 months immediately preceding his participation in the first match of the current NLC season.
- The Player has played in two (2) of the last three (3) "European Regional League" (ERL) seasons immediately preceding his participation in the first match in the NLC. In addition, a season counts towards the LTR requirement for a Player if the Player was part of an ERL or LEC team for the majority of the matches in the season - even if the Player did not actively participate in the corresponding ERL - as long as the Player did not participate in another ERL.
- The Player has had his primary residence in the Northern Region for at least 36 months since his 13th birthday.
Any natural person authorized by Freaks 4U Gaming GmbH to administer the NLC based on its rules and regulations is hereinafter referred to as "Admin". The entirety of all Admins is referred to as "Administration".
No open registration will be available.
By participating in the NLC, Players accept the rules without limitation and follow the instructions of the Administration. The interpretation of the rules is solely at the discretion of the Administration. Decisions can replace the following rules, if they are in accordance with the preservation of the competitive spirit. Any special cases not listed in this rulebook require individual review by the Administration. Measures can deviate from those mentioned here, but will be taken in any case with the principle of proportionality as well as conformity with the rest of the rulebook.
Each Player acknowledges the right of Riot Games and Freaks 4U Gaming GmbH to adjust or change the rules at any time without Riot Games or Freaks 4U Gaming GmbH having to inform the Players about the adjustments and/or changes.
Every Player has to show due respect to other Players as well as to the Administration. Insults, unfair and/or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated and can be punished with an immediate suspension from the league. Here, the respective match pages, lobby chat as well as ingame chat will be considered. The Administration reserves the right to include incidents that take place outside of these spaces, if a direct relation to the league operation is determined.
Each Player must have the latest version of League of Legends (live servers as well as the two relevant Tournament Realm Clients) installed and must take care to learn about and apply new updates to their system in a timely manner. Patching is not a valid reason to delay a game under normal circumstances.
By participating in the NLC, the Player confirms that they have reached the age required to play League of Legends in their country.
The Administration reserves the right to change or delete offensive or insulting pictures, names or profile descriptions of teams and Players without prior warning. This includes, but is not limited to, racist, anti-semitic, sexist, homophobic, transphobic or otherwise discriminatory names, pictures or profile descriptions.
Data protection regulations
Any person participating in an NLC match hereby agrees that Player and team names as well as sound and image recordings made in the course of the NLC and in which the Player is featured may be used free of charge for publications on websites of Riot Games and Freaks 4U Gaming GmbH, their social media channels and in the context of the press. Riot Games and Freaks 4U Gaming GmbH is thus entitled to a temporally and geographically unrestricted and unlimited use, storage and utilization of the material.
Each player and coach will receive an account for the Tournament Realm upon request. Tournament Realm accounts are required to participate in the competition. Sharing Tournament Realm accounts with 3rd parties is strictly forbidden.
By participating in the NLC, all Players agree that their summoner name will be visible to third parties.
In order to prevent deception and fraud in competitions in which fairness and integrity in esports or also cash and non-cash prizes are at stake, Freaks 4U Gaming GmbH has a legitimate interest (General Data Protection Regulation; Article 47) in pseudonymizing Game Accounts, such as the League of Legends account, and storing them for up to five (5) years after user account deletion.
Each team is responsible for logos, team names, profile descriptions, etc. themselves. The Administration will only intervene in case of proof of a registered brand name, licensed logos or proven copyright violations as well as violations according to rule 1.5.6.
The primary communication platform for the NLC is the official Discord Server, which will be communicated by the Administration to participating teams.
By registering for the NLC, each team agrees to actively participate. In order not to make other teams wait unnecessarily on match days, each team must always be ready to play on the official match date.
If a team is no longer able or willing to participate in the league, the team leader is required to communicate this to the Administration.
Teams may not be sponsored by brands or products that fit at least one of the following descriptions:

League structure & Format
The first stage of a season is the application stage. Teams placed in the bottom half of the NLC Summer Split 2021 are directly invited and other teams can apply for the competition via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. At least the following details should be provided in the application:
- Team infrastructure
- Plan regarding financing (sponsors, investors)
- Present esports activities
Any applications must be submitted by September 10th, 2021. All participating teams will be selected by the Administration at their sole discretion by September 17th, 2021.
The second stage is the group stage and it consists of up to four (4) groups, which are played in the Round Robin format. The exact number of groups will be announced at the start of a season.
The top teams of the group stage will advance to the next stage. The exact number of teams advancing will be announced at the start of a season.
The third and final stage is the playoff stage, which starts after the group stage and serves to qualify teams for Division 1 and Division 2 of the NLC 2022 Spring Split. Participation in the playoffs is dependent on the results from the group stage.
The four (4) highest placed teams of the playoff stage will qualify for Division 1 of the NLC 2022 Spring Split, the fifth to sixth highest placed teams will qualify for Division 2 of the NLC 2022 Spring Split. Any other team will qualify for the Division 2 Qualifier.
The playoff stage will consist of one Double Elimination Bracket. The exact format of the playoff stage will be announced via Discord.
In the regular group stage, a match consists of two (2) games. In the playoffs, a match consists of a Best-Of-Three (Bo3) or a Best-Of-Five (Bo5). Both teams must submit the result immediately after the Match has finished via Discord to the Administration.
Each victory of a game in the regular group stage corresponds to one (1) point in the ranking.
The ranking in the group is calculated according to the points earned.
In case two (2) or more teams are tied by points after all matches have been concluded, following regulations apply:
- If exactly two (2) teams are tied, a Best-Of-One (Bo1) tiebreaker match will be played between both teams. The winner of this match prevails in the ranking.
- If exactly three (3) are tied, a single round-robin consisting of Bo1 matches will be played among the three Teams. If this does not result in hierarchical standings of Teams, then the three Teams will be drawn into a single-elimination bracket where the Team with the lowest Victory Time from the single round-robin tiebreaker games has a bye into the finals.
- If exactly four (4) teams are tied, the Teams will be drawn into two first-round matches (Game 1 and Game 2) based on their Victory Time. The winners of Game 1 and Game 2 will then face off in Game 3 while the losers face off in Game 4. The winner of Game 3 will be awarded the highest standing being decided by the tiebreaker, and the loser of Game 3 will be awarded the next highest standing being decided by the tiebreaker. The winner of Game 4 will be awarded the next highest standing being decided by the tiebreaker and the loser of Game 4 will be awarded the lowest standing being decided by the tiebreaker.
Composition of the teams
In order to participate in an NLC season, a minimum of five (5) Players from a team must register for the season and thus be confirmed for the season lineup by September 28th, 2021. Any team must submit their roster to the Administration via Discord. The administration will then provide any team with the respective Tournament Realm Accounts for their Players.
In a season, there can be a maximum of ten (10) Players in the season lineup at any one time .
A stand-in is a Player who is not listed in the team's active lineup and is filling in for an active Player.
Stand-ins are not permitted.
After September 28th, 2021 no players may be added to the lineup.
Furthermore, the following regulations apply:
- Players who already have been part of the Team's roster of the respective Summer Split 2021 are eligible to play
- Players that have played 50% or more of a European Regional League (ERL) or a professional league in their respective regular Summer Split 2021 for any other team are not eligible to participate.
Note: Leagues that qualify to the Worlds are classified as professional leagues. Leagues that qualify to the European Masters are classified as ERL.
A team belongs to the respective organization, not to individuals.
Team accounts may not be passed without further consultation of the Administration.
Protests & Questions
Any questions or complaints about the league must be submitted via Discord. The Administration cannot be reached in any other way.
Complaints must be submitted within 24 hours after the official match start. Protests submitted outside of this time period may be rejected without review. The required Tournament Realm clients as well as used patches will also be communicated in time for each game day.
If a team or one of the players is not be able to show up for a match on time or at all due to a Force Majeur, the administration must be informed immediately. It is at the discretion of the administration to decide whether the match will be postponed or cancelled.
Before the match

Short-term changes to the lineup are possible later in exceptional cases and only with the approval of the administration. Any change to the lineup will result in the loss of the first ban for the first game of the match.
The team mentioned first in each match has the right of side selection for the first game of a match. The right of side selection changes with any game within the match.
For the group stage all teams are required to submit their side selection 24 hours before the official match time of the first Match of the given match day. If the day before the match day there was another match day, all teams can adjust their Side Selection until 22:00 CET/CEST or 15 minutes after the Nexus of the last match has been destroyed, whichever is later. If side selection is not provided in team, the with the right of side selection defaults to the blue side.

If the day before the match day there was another match day, all teams can adjust their side selection until 22:00 CET/CEST or 15 minutes after the Nexus of the last match has been destroyed, whichever is later.
For every following playoff game of one match, all teams are required to submit their side selection for the next match within five minutes after the Nexus of the last match has been destroyed.
Each team must be ready to play by the official match date.
Within a match there is a ten (10) minute break between each game.
If teams are not fully ready and therefore late to a game, the following rules apply:
- 15 minutes late: loss of the game
- 30 minutes late: loss of the entire match
The delay must be proven by the protesting team.
The game lobby should be hosted by the team with the right of side selection. The lobby must be created on the 5vs5 map (Summoner's Rift) and the Amsterdam Server. The Champion Selection takes place in the 'Tournament Draft' game mode.
All Players are required to check the opposing lineup in the lobby for eligibility. In case of any inconsistency the administration must be contacted immediately.
If the Pick-&-Ban Phase is started before both teams are ready, the Champion Selection can be left before the first ban of the own team.
The game is considered to have started when at least one of the following points is fulfilled:
- Visual contact was established between Players of both teams.

If the Champion Selection is cancelled, all bans and picks must be repeated in identical order. The selected champions can be swapped within the team as desired.
In case of technical problems like bugs or disconnects during the Champion Selection, and a wrongly selected champion, be it a pick or ban, the Champion Selection can be interrupted by the affected team, if the opposing team has not yet selected another pick or ban afterwards. All picks and bans must be repeated until the incorrectly selected champion. The incorrectly selected champion can then be re-selected.
In case of technical problem at the end of the Champion Selection, such as wrongly selected runes, Summoner Spells or a bug when swapping champions, the game can be aborted and the Champion Selection restarted, if the game has not been started yet according to rule 6.3.4. All picks and bans must be repeated.
The administration will inform all teams in time about restrictions of selectable champions, skills, runes, items and combinations of them.
Spectators are not allowed in the lobby at game start. Only the ten (10) players and persons approved by the administration are allowed inside the lobby at game start.
Should server-side technical problems with the Tournament Realm occur prior to a match in such a way that a regular staging of the match is not possible or justifiable, the backup Tournament Realm will be used. If these or similar problems occur here as well, it is up to the administration to decide whether the match will be played on the live server or postponed.
During the match
Substitutions after the first game of a match must be communicated to the administration five (5) minutes after the end of the previous game at the latest.

If this time is exceeded, the opposing team can insist on continuing the game. If a team refuses to continue the game after the pause time, the Administration must be informed as soon as possible. If there is no instruction from the Administration within ten (10) minutes and the opposing team continues to refuse to resume, the match will be suspended until further notice. The administration may decide, at its discretion, to reschedule or close the match.
Before resuming the game, both teams must confirm that they are ready to continue the game.
Teams are allowed to stream their games through the players POV. This is limited to the teams channel, the players themselves are not allowed to stream on their own channel.
Teams are not allowed to integrate any kind of sponsor or partner into the stream, as well as creating any kind of monetization outside of the streaming platform.
Teams are required to broadcast with a delay of at least five (5) minutes.
The league officials may revoke the permission to stream the games at any point at their own discretion. This applies to both individual teams as well as the teams as a whole.
If the connection of all Players to the server breaks down and rejoining the server is not possible, the Administration must be informed immediately. If there is no instruction from the Administration within ten (10) minutes, the match is suspended until further notice. The Administration may, at its discretion, reschedule or close the match.
The use of software and hardware that may affect League of Legends in any way is prohibited.
If bugs occur in the game that significantly affect the game, the game must be paused. The Administration must be informed immediately via support ticket. If said bugs affect only one team, clips or screenshots must be taken of the game to prove the bug. If there is no instruction from the Administration within ten (10) minutes, the match will be suspended until further notice. The Administration may, at its discretion, reschedule or close the match.
Deliberate abuse of bugs is prohibited.
All Players must try to win every match at every stage of the league. Any collusion that affects, among other things, the Pick-&-Ban Phase or the match play is prohibited. Intentionally losing a match is prohibited.
Breaking the rules can lead from punishment of a single Player to punishment of the whole team. The degree of punishment is decided individually by the Administration.
